Arranging local work safely

WorksNear introduces people who will meet in person. These are the habits that keep that safe on both sides.

For everyone

  • Keep conversations on WorksNear until you have agreed on the work. It gives you a record.
  • Meet first in a public place, or at the actual work site during daylight with someone aware of where you are.
  • Be wary of anyone who rushes you, refuses a call, or will not confirm a physical address.
  • Never send money to secure a job, a background check, equipment or training. Legitimate employers do not ask for this.
  • Do not share bank details, government ID numbers or copies of documents over chat.

For job seekers

  • Confirm the business exists independently — a phone number, an address, a website.
  • Get the pay rate, hours and start date in writing before your first shift.
  • Treat an offer made without any interview or conversation as a red flag.
  • If a role requires a licence or certification, expect the employer to ask to see it. That is normal and works both ways.

For employers

  • Verify identity and any required certifications before the first day on site.
  • Put the rate, schedule and scope in writing so there is no dispute later.
  • Do not ask candidates for financial information during hiring.
  • Follow the employment law that applies where the work happens — WorksNear is an introduction platform, not your employer of record.

For service customers and providers

  • Agree the scope, price and what happens if the job runs long before work starts.
  • Prefer payment on completion or in milestones over full payment up front.
  • Providers: confirm access, parking and who will be on site. Customers: confirm insurance for anything involving property or vehicles.

Payments

WorksNear does not hold or escrow money between users. Subscriptions are the only payments that run through the platform. Any payment for actual work is arranged directly between the two parties, so choose a method that leaves a record.

Reporting a problem

Use the contact form, choose Trust & safety, and include the listing or profile link plus what happened. Safety reports are handled before other support requests, and accounts can be suspended while we investigate. If anyone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
